Dear Friend,

I’m ambitious for our party - I firmly believe that we can break for ever the stifling grip of two party politics and emulate in Westminster the success we so often achieve locally. That means winning at least 150 seats within two General Elections and expanding our representation at every level. To succeed in this will take continued hard work and dedication by those fighting for our cause on the ground. I know that our committed activists are up to the challenge.

Simon Hughes, Chris Rennard and I have announced a review commission, chaired by Chris Bones, to ensure that the party infrastructure and organisation is up to the challenge too. You can find more information about the commission here: www.libdems.org.uk/reformcommission and I know that the commission would very much welcome the views of those of you who are currently working to build our party at the grassroots level.

I have also made it clear that I personally will do my part. At Prime Minister’s Questions I’ve talked about issues that matters to millions - fuel poverty and house insecurity, and I’ve held my first town hall meetings in Edinburgh and Amersham. I firmly intend to spend as much time as possible, at least one day of every week, out of Westminster, listening and talking to people outside the Westminster bubble. Needless to say much of that time will be spent joining local, campaigning Liberal Democrat parties in their electoral fights. I will be asking my top team of MPs to do the same thing.

Together we can take our party forward to further successes.
